CASA ANFION
CASA ANFION
On a hillside of shifting and steep slopes in northern Spain, at 840 meters above sea level, stands Casa Anfion–a cluster of four housing units designed for the trainee teachers of the Witryh Yoga Ashram. Surrounded by natural beauty and overlooking what is known as the Sea of the Pyrenees, this house offers not only shelter, but also quiet instruction. One of the core principles taught at Witryh is: “Adapt, Mold, Accommodate.” Casa Anfion embodies this teaching through its architecture. Rather than imposing a geometry foreign to the land, the project lets itself be guided by it. The rooms are arranged at varying heights, following the rhythm of the slope, each one carefully oriented: some toward the sunrise over the Pyrenees, others toward the western sunset. Each space offers a distinct experience, with no need for stairs, thanks to the terrain’s natural accessibility.
Architecture here becomes a mediator–a living example for future yogis. A form that does not resist its surroundings, but listens to them and embraces them.
The use of wood-both as structural material and exterior finish-deepens this connection to time and transformation.
Exposed to sun, wind, and seasons, the wood changes, weathers, softens. Its evolution is visible, just like that of the people who inhabit the house. Each grain, each shift in tone, reminds us that everything is in constant change.
Casa Anfion is not just a place to dwell. It is a silent lesson in how to be in the world.
